Cosmetic Surgery Rhinoplasty

Cosmetic surgery has been a round for long, long time. In fact, rhinoplasty has been existent since the time of ancient Egypt. Even in India, they describe nasal reconstruction with the use of a flap of skin coming from the forehead. There were also brachial based flaps invented during the 16th century for reconstructing noses. However, the noted father of modern rhinoplasty is Jacques Joseph – a trained orthopedic surgeon. He facilitated much of the revolutionary rhinoplastic techniques in Berlin during the year 1898. Most of his techniques are still being used by plastic surgeons today.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most sought after and highly demanded plastic surgery procedures. Statistics show that over 50,000 procedures are performed every year. Most of these surgeries are elective. Due to this, it is up to the plastic surgeon’s better judgment to determine if the patient is suitable for surgery.

Since plastic surgery has become a common discussion among the elite and celebrities, rhinoplasty and other cosmetic surgery procedures have become popular. A lot of people now who are not happy about their facial structures, figures or the like would resort to plastic surgery. With the strong demand, there are a lot of doctors now who pretend to be knowledgeable in this field. Due to this, the number of botched nose jobs and medical malpractice law suits continue to rise.

For these reasons, care should be taken when agreeing on cosmetic rhinoplasty. There are people who go through this procedure for the wrong reasons. There are people who are unstable and who have unrealistic expectations. There are also those who go through one rhinoplasty procedure to another. Why? They’re not contented with the result. Doctors should also assess their patients. If a patient has undergone a number of rhinoplasties in the last 9 to 12 months, this may be due to another problem - one of psychological nature. They should first find psychological treatment before possibly undergoing this procedure.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty can indeed correct any imbalances in a person’s features. It can remove the lumps and bumps. It can either shorten or lengthen the nose. It can even sculpt the tip into a more pleasing shape. The technique is actually just as important as the artistic eye of the surgeon.

It is much easier to show a person now how he or she will look after a nose job. This can be done through computer imaging. To do this, the plastic surgeon will initially photograph and measure the face of the patient. Afterwards, he will make the necessary recommendations while taking the expectation of the patient into consideration. While discussing these, it is important to listen carefully to your surgeon so that there won’t be any miscommunication problems later on.

Most patients avail of a plastic surgeon’s services through referral or via his gallery of before & after pictures. If you are truly decided on undergoing cosmetic rhinoplasty, it is important to find a certified and experienced plastic surgeon. Set up an appointment and attend your consultation session with an open mind. You can interview a short list of plastic surgeons. This way, you can choose the best. Another factor to consider is if you are comfortable working with the surgeon. Keep in mind that it is your nose/face he will be working on so make sure you are talking to a doctor you can definitely rely on.
